The Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) of the Forest Department conducted a raid on an online bird shop and rescued two chicks of hornbill, locally known as Dhanesh.
Acting on a tip off, a team of WCCU with the support of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police carried out the raid at East Chadna in Gazipur on Saturday (May 13) and detained the owner of the online shop with the chicks of hornbill bird.
Nargis Sultana Liza, a wildlife inspector at the Forest Department; confirmed the matter to the Bangladesh Post. She said that they conducted the operation on the online bird shop under the guise of customer for birds.
The detainee was under the custody of the police. Process of filing case against him is underway.
Nargis Sultana Liza thanked members of Gazipur Metropolitan Police and CID for assisting the WCCU with immediate action.
