A Jhalokati court on Monday awarded death sentence to a man for killing his father at Uttar Chechri village under Kathalia upazila in Jhalokati in 2007.
Sheikh Md Tofael Hasan, Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court in Jhalokati, pronounced the verdict on Monday in absentia.
The convict is Altaf Hossain Khondoker, son of Abdul Barek of the village.
According to the case statement, on April 10 in 2007, Altaf's father told him for picking up wood from their home premises. But he denied after quarrelling with his father, he severely beat the father, leaving him severe injured.
Later, Barek Khodoker died at a hospital in Barishal. Barek's another son filed a murder case with Kathalia Police station in the connection.
Md Shahidul Islam, Sub-Inspector of Kathalia Police Station, submitted charge sheet against the killer son to the court on May 30 of the year.
