One shot dead, 10 injured in Narail clash

A man was shot dead and 10 other people including a woman and children were injured during a clash between two rival groups at Deoadanga village in Purulia union of Kalia upazila in Narail on Wednesday over sand cutting. 

The deceased was identified as Masud Rana, 35, son of Ali Akbar Sheikh of Deoadanga village in the upazila. Kalia thana Officer-in-charge (O C) Md Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter. 

Police and local sources said, Aminur Sheikh's supporters clashed with Kajal Mollah's supporters in Deoadanga village over establishing supremacy in the area and sand cutting on the Nabganga river char on Wednesday.

When Kajal Mollah’s supporters went to cut the sand of Nabaganga river char around 8:30 am on the day, Aminur Sheikh’s supporters blocked it. A clash broke out between the two rival groups over the incident. 

During the clash Aminur Sheikh's supporter six people including Masud Rana were shot by the opposition. Three people were injured in an attack with homemade weapons. The injured were admitted to Kalia upazila health complex, Narail sadar hospital and Khulna Medical College hospital. 

Kalia thana Officer-in-charge (O C) Md Rafiqul Islam further told that police had been deployed in the area. Five people have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident.

The body was sent to hospital morgue for post mortem examination.
