One more die of Covid-19 in Rangpur division

One more Covid-19 related fatality was reported from Gaibandha during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Saturday raising the number fatalities to 1,266 in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the pandemic situation is showing a slightly stable trend during the last couple of days as community spread of the lethal virus is gradually becoming weaker in the division.  

The district-wise breakup of the 1,266 fatalities stands at 295 in Rangpur, 83 in Panchagarh, 91 in Nilphamari, 71 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in Kurigram, 256 in Thakurgaon, 336 in Dinajpur and 65 in Gaibandha of the division.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.01 percent in the division,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam Lenin told the national news agency today.  

Meanwhile, 90 fresh Covid-19 cases were diagnosed after testing 372 samples at the 24.29 percent positivity rate on Friday in the division.

Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 26.88 percent on Thursday, 27.22 percent on Wednesday, 27.07 percent on Tuesday, 33.05 percent on Monday, 31.73 percent on Sunday and 36.90 percent on Saturday last in the division.

“With the diagnosis of 90 fresh Covid-19 cases, the total number of infected patients has reached 62,909 in the division,” Dr. Islam said.   

“The district-wise break up of total 62,909 patients include 14,654 in Rangpur, 4,303 in Panchagarh, 5,293 in Nilphamari, 3,187 in Lalmonirhat, 4,921 in Kurigram, 8,497 in Thakurgaon, 16,567 in Dinajpur and 5,387 in Gaibandha in the division,” he added..    

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,29,090 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 62,909 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.47 percent.  

In the meantime, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 57,186 in Rangpur division with the recovery of 94 more patients on Friday.

“The average recovery rate currently stands at 90.92 percent,” Dr. Islam said, adding that the recovery rate is showing a rising trend in recent days in the division.

Among the total 62,909 patients, 99 are under treatment at isolation units, including 17 critical patients at ICU beds and seven at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 57,186 patients and 1,266 deaths while 4,348 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 1,09,08,7436 and among them, 67,98,548 got the second dose and 2,30,224 got the booster dose till Friday in the division,” Dr Islam added.

Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy said the number of Covid-19 cases is showing a slightly declining trend in recent days in Rangpur 

division.

He suggested common people to sincerely abide by the health directives and hygiene rules to prevent further community spread of the lethal virus.
