A man was killed and at least 30 others were injured in a rivalry clash at Naogaon village of Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Shomor Ali, 40, son of Hazi Saiful Islam of Naogaon village of the upazila. All the injured were undergoing treatment at Dhaka medical College Hospital.
The clash ensued sporadically, equipped with local sharp weapons since early night of Friday.
Locals and police claimed that an enmity has been prevailing between Alauddin and Joj Mia over supremacy of the sand filling of a private company in the area. The murder of man a named Din Islam was also committed in 2019 in this regard. Locals are assuming that this clash occurred as the revenge of previous murder.
A resident of Pirojpur union, Dulal Hossain blamed the union council chairman saying that the chaos was lingered because of him.
He patronized both parties as they pay toll to him for illegal sand extraction and filling.
Brother of the deceased, Abdul Ali Filed a murder case with police in this regard mentioning the names of 17 people and 15 other anonymous people.
Officer-in-Charge of Sonargaon police station Rafikul Islam said that both party have filed cases and all the accused will be arrested soon.
