One killed, 2 injured in wild elephant attack in Lama

An old woman named Khadija Begum (67) was killed in an attack by a wild elephant in Lama Upazila. Two more people were injured.

Khadija Begum was killed on the spot when a wild elephant attacked her while she was working in her paddy field on November 4 (Friday) at 7:30 in the morning. She is the wife of deceased Fazor Ali, a resident of Chiuni Sohrab Para, Ward No. 6 of Aziz Nagar Union. Two neighbors named Mozammel Bayati (68) and Amir Ali (75) were injured.

Confirming the incident, Aziz Nagar Union Chairman Md. Jasim Uddin Company told local sources that the deceased Khadija Begum was working in her paddy field at 7:30 a.m., suddenly a wild elephant attacked her and she was killed on the spot and Mozammel Bayati and Amir were injured. The two injured were rescued and sent to Chakaria Hospital for treatment and then sent to Cox's Bazar Hospital for better treatment, said Union Chairman Md. Jasim Uddin Company.

Lama Divisional Forest Officer Md. Ariful Haque Belal said that there are elephants and people in Lama upazila. An awareness program will be launched for the safe habitat of both, if necessary, the Lama Upazila Parishad will be discussed with everyone, so that people and elephants can live safely. The forest official said that the government will arrange compensation for the dead old woman according to the forest law.
