One held over RMG worker rape charge

Ashulia police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly rape a readymade garment workers inside the factory named ‘Yagi Bangladesh Garments Ltd’, located Beron area of Ashulia last December 18, following a case filed by the victim on Tuesday night with Ashulia police station in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital.

Jamal Sikder, Inspector of Ashulia police station confirmed the matter on Wednesday morning.

The arrestee was identified as Jahangir Alam, 32, son of Yakub Patwari, from Cumilla. He is an admin officer at ‘Yagi Bangladesh Garments Ltd’. Earlier on Tuesday, the victim along with her family members went to the factory and informed to the authority that she was raped by three of factory staffs making her unconscious by inject her unknown medicine last Thursday. She got extremely sick and went back home later.

Afterwards workers of the factory demonstrated inside factory premises protesting the sexual harassment happened with their co-worker, which being forced the authority to announced leave for the day in afternoon. Later the victim filed a case with Ashulia police station mentioning three names including Jahangir.

The victim alleged, the accused took her into a room at factory ground floor, talking about to collect blood for some medical test, and later they rape her making unconscious injecting unknown medicine.

Inspector Jamal said the arrestee was produced before a Dhaka court on Wednesday morning and police were trying to nab the other two accused involved with the incident.
