Members of Police have arrested a man in a case filed over the death of a forest officer, who was killed as a dumper (mini truck) hit his bike at Ukhiya upazila in Cox's Bazar district early Sunday.
The arrestee is identified as Syed Karim, 35.
Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station Md Shamim Hossain said police in a drive arrested Karim from Harinmara area of Rajapalang union early Monday.
Shafiul Alam, an official from the Forest Department's Ukhiya range, filed the case against 15 people, including 10 named individuals, on Sunday midnight.
The deceased Sazzad Hossain, 30, son of Md Shah Jahan, was a beat officer at Dochhari Forest in the Ukhiya Range of Cox's Bazar South Forest Division.
Gazi Shafiul Alam, Ukhiya range officer of the Department of Forest, said the incident happened at around 3:30am in Horinmara area of the union when the officer was trying to stop the dumper truck, carrying stolen soil from the hills of a reserve forest. He was crushed by the vehicle and the perpetrators then ran away, leaving him dead on the spot
