The miscreants have allegedly attempted to kill an elderly rickshaw van peddler stabbing on his throat on the mid-night of Saturday. The injured Ayub Biswas, 67, son of Nawsher Biswas of village Ulubaria in Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah was rushed to hospital. The police had arrested one of the two miscreants in this connection, said the police and local people.
Police said two persons had hired the rickshaw van of Ayub Biswas for a trip to Katlagari Bazer from Langalbandh Bazer. But they had stopped the van on the way near Kirtinagar and stabbed the elderly man. As he started hue and cry, neighboring people rushed there and rescued the van peddler with blood coating. Thery sent him Shailkupa upazila health complex. The attending physicians had referred Ayub Hossain to Kushtia medical College Hospital for better treatment there. Later, the police had grilled one of the two miscreants Rasel Hossain, son of Jalil Uddin of village Gosaidanga in same upazila. When contacted, Shailkupa police station officer-in-charge (OC) Safiqul Islam Chowdhury said, they had arrested one of the two miscreants, while drive continues to grill the remaining at the earliest. Condition of van peddler Ayub Hossain was stated to be improved, the OC said.
