Rupganj Correspondent: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-11 has arrested Rubel Mia (38) from Jamalpur within 24 hours in connection with a rape case in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. The arrest was confirmed through a press release by RAB-11 Operations Officer Golam Morshed.
According to RAB sources, a joint team from RAB-11, Adamjeenagar, Narayanganj, and RAB-14, CPC-1, Jamalpur conducted a raid at 16:05 on Tuesday in Pogaldia area under Sarishabari Police Station, Jamalpur. They detained Rubel Mia, son of late Rahmat Ali and Sahida Begum of Sholpada village under Sonargaon Municipality.
As per the case statement, the victim’s husband died in 2008. In 2022, she became acquainted with the accused through social media, leading to a romantic relationship. Rubel allegedly took Tk 5,50,000 from her on various excuses, promising marriage. He reportedly exploited her sexually multiple times. On 12 October at around 11 pm, he forcibly raped her in his bedroom in Gholpada, locked her inside and fled. When she screamed the next morning, locals rescued her.
The accused has been handed over to Jamalpur Sadar Police Station for legal proceedings.
