One gets life in Thakurgaon

A court in Thakurgaon has sentenced a man named Abu Saeed to life imprisonment after allegations were proved in a case under the Arms Act. The court on Tuesday sentenced Abu Saeed to life imprisonment under section 19 (a) and five years rigorous imprisonment under section 19 (f) as the offenses under sections 19 (a) and (f) of the Arms Act of 1878 were proved beyond doubt. Judge and District Sessions Judge Mamunur Rashid announced such punishment. The other accused in the case, Asaduzzaman Liton and Soleiman Ali, have been acquitted as the charges against them have not been proved.

The convict is Abu Saeed, 28, son of Badrul Islam of Lahuchad village in Haripur upazila of the district. State Public Prosecutor Advocate Shekhar Kumar Roy said that on July 2, 2018, Harin Aur Rashid, Deputy Principal Officer of Kashipur Branch of Grameen Bank and his peon Mukul Hossain withdrew Tk six lakh from Nekmarad Branch of Sonali Bank. When the convict reached a place called Durlavpur, the accused Abu Saeed stopped them with a speeding motorbike, fired a round of ammunition with a firearm and threatened them and snatched Tk six lakh from them. 

Later, Harun Aur Rashid and his peon Mukul Hossain started chasing them while shouting. When Araji reached Chandanhat village, the accused saw a police check post and tried to flee leaving his motorcycle. Police later arrested Abu Saeed and Asaduzzaman Liton with the help of locals. 

A foreign pistol and ammunition with a magazine were recovered from Abu Saeed and a bag of money was recovered from Asaduzzaman Liton. Later, SI Asgar Ali of Ranishankail police station filed a case under the Arms Act.
