One gets life in Narail drug case

A Narail court sentenced a drug trader to life-term imprisonment here on Wednesday.

Additional District and Sessions Judge-1 Md. Akram Hossen gave this verdict in presence of the convict. The convicted was Md. Shamim Sikder, 32, son of Md. Mostofa Sikder of village Char-Karomji under Barishal port thana of Barishal district.

The court also fined him Taka 20,000, in default, he will have to suffer two months more in jail.

According to the prosecution story, in brief, acting on a tip-off, a team of Police conducted a raid in west side of Sitarampur Bridge on Narail-Jashore road under Narail sadar upazila on December 1, 2013 and arrested Shamim with 49 bottles  of contraband phensidyl.

Police filed a case with Narail sadar Thana against the accused on the same day.Investigating Officer (IO) of the case submitted charge-sheet against him.

After hearing the witnesses and examining other relevant evidence, the court handed down the punishment.
