One dies in wild elephant attack in Cox’s Bazar

A man named Saiful Islam (38) was killed in an attack by a wild elephant in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar. The incident took place last night in Islam Nagar area adjacent to Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway under Nalbila Bonbit of Chakaria upazila. Today (December 19) morning, the forest department recovered the dead body and handed it over to the police.

The deceased is the son of deceased Mostafizur Rahman of Banshri Housing Project area of Koyarbil Union of Chakaria Upazila.

Nalbila forest officer of Chakaria Avni Kumar said that after yesterday evening two wild elephants came to Kalabagan near the road in search of food and the forest workers chased the two elephants towards the mountains. When the dead Saiful was seen going towards the hilly area around 10 pm, the locals warned him about elephants. Later this morning, locals found Saiful dead at the spot and informed the forest department.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station Chandan Kumar Chakraborty said that the body of a person who was crushed by the foot of an elephant is in the police station. The relatives have applied to the Additional District Magistrate for burial without post-mortem. Further action will be taken accordingly.
