A 86-year old mane named Kabir Uddin Jamader died at his home at Jajira upazila in Shariatpur on Thursday, only five hours after he was declared ‘cured’ of coronavirus. Badal Jamader, son of the deceased, confirmed the death news.

He said, “My father was declared cured of coronavirus around 12:30pm on Thursdya after his coronavirus follow-up reports came back negative. Then local administration, along with the concerned doctors, gave a farewell to him with a flower bouquet for his recovery," said Badal.

The son said his father started suffering from breathing problems two hours after the doctors and the officials left their house, and he died later in the day.

He said his father had been suffering from breathing problems for long. Besides, he was also suffering from kidney problems and other old-age complications.

"The old man was diagnosed with Covid-19 on April 23. He underwent treatment at home, in isolation. As his follow-up reports came back negative and he had no coronavirus symptoms, we declared him cured yesterday," Dr Mahmudul Hasan, Jajira upazila health and family planning officer, said.

"On April 20, the old man went to Asgar Ali Hospital in Old Dhaka for treatment of breathing problems. There the doctors advised him to take coronavirus test with other regular tests. Then he tested positive for Covid-19," he added.

"His body was buried at his house last night," said Jobaer Ahmed Sajeeb, a friend of the deceased's younger son Al-Amin Jamader, who attended the burial.
