Octane, essentials stored for smuggling to Myanmar seized: Two arrested

RAB seized a large quantity of octane and consumables while being smuggled out to Myanmar by conducting raids in Shahpari Island area of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar. 

The seized products include 1415 liters of octane in 25 drums, 40 kg of onion, 31 kgs of garlic, 36 kg of ginger. 

A group of smugglers were smuggling out these products including octane to the neighbouring country Myanmar. Meanwhile, RAB arrested 2 smugglers.

On Wednesday night RAB conducted this operation in Shahpari Island of Sabrang Union bordering area of Teknaf Upazila.

RAB 15 Senior Assistant Director Additional Superintendent of Police Media Mo Abu Salam Chowdhury said on Thursday morning that recently RAB-15 received an information that some smugglers were illegally smuggling out fuel oil octane and other essential items to neighboring countries using various sea channels in Cox's Bazar district. 

On the basis of this information, RAB-15, Cox's Bazar increased intelligence surveillance to arrest the members of the said smuggling gang and prevent trafficking.

Following this, RAB's team came to know on the basis of secret information that some smugglers of fuel oil octane are staying in Shahpari Dwip Middle Para area of Sabrang Union of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar district for the purpose of smuggling out those products to Myanmar. 

According to sources, a team of RAB 15 raided a house on the banks of Naf River in Shahpari Island last night and recovered a large quantity of fuel oil octane drums and consumables including onion, ginger, garlic and arrested two smugglers. Detained Faiz Ullah and Abdullah Shahpari are residents of the island.

Admitted to stockpiling onion, garlic and ginger at the site for smuggling through the Naf River to Myanmar. A case has been filed with Teknaf police station in this regard, said the RAB official.
