Bangladesh is predicted to be the worst affected due to climate change despite being having the lowest carbon emission among the countries. In the last few years, Bangladesh has taken several initiatives to combat the effects of climate change. As a low-lying country, Bangladesh will likely go under water in the next few decades if steps are not taken immediately.

However, despite these initiatives our seas and oceans continue to become polluted and we are at risk of losing one of our most valuable resources. 80 percent trade is carried over waterways and the oceans are repositories of fish, minerals and other resources.

Moreover, over fishing and using up of finite resources is fast becoming a big problem. We must be aware of the consequences of our action. Large amounts of chemical and solid waste also finds its way to the ocean and seas. In turn, many marine species have now become endangered, threatening the ecology of the oceans.

The government must fund projects and research initiatives to preserve the oceans and seas. Corporate organizations should do their part by shifting to sustainable models of  production.

The government must hold companies accountable for their actions and ensure that they make the necessary changes in their activities to safeguard the water bodies.

The general public in our country is still for the most part unaware of the devastating effects that climate change can have. As a result, they do not care about reducing their carbon footprint or switching to sustainable lifestyles. Children should be taught the importance of environmentally conscious behavior. Adults must also make the necessary changes in their lives.

As a developing nation, our carbon footprint is much less compared to the wealthier nations. However, this does not excuse us from doing our level best to save the planet. Policy makers in our country must prioritize climate change action and ensure sustainable development.

Protecting our invaluable resources is our duty and should be the top priority for each and every individual. If everyone pledges to do their part in protecting the environment, we will be able to reduce our carbon footprint and fight the effects of climate change.
