Not stadiums, playgrounds important to me: Papon

Nazmul Hassan Papon, past his first day as the Minister for Youth and Sports at his offices at the Ministry and the National Sports Council on Sunday.    

Papon, the incumbent president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) newly appointed as the Youth and Sports Minister.

Papon, first of all said in his reaction that he wanted to leave the post of BCB President, as he said, “I want get out from here (BCB) as early as possible. But I will not do anything that would be harmful for Bangladesh cricket. Now its better to leave it, though there is no any of legal bar.    

Youth and Sports Minister Nazmul Hassan Papon said he wanted more open playgrounds rather than restricted stadiums on the first day at office when he was asked whether he would give emphasis on skill training or infrastructure development.

Papon, who have been performing the responsibility of cricket but after being appointed as Sports Minister, all the sports events are under him.

Papon thinks that it would be something difficult to manage all – “Now I am entrusted with a bog responsibility, I will have to look after all and will have to concentrate more.”          

However, the newly appointed Sports Minister emphasis on his making more playground not stadiums – “I am not in favour of (making) stadiums, rather I am in favour of sports. We don't need to have stadiums everywhere. We need to have open playgrounds with facilities like dressing rooms so that the people have access to enter the grounds and play there,” told Papon.  

Officials of different national federations, associations and sports journalist organisations congratulated Papon by presenting flowers and cakes at the NSC Tower. 

Papon assured everyone that he would try to release the problems that the federations have been facing. 

“I want to sit with each and every federation separately and try to know their problems because meeting with a few federations together will not work I believe,” said Papon. 

“I want to support them accordingly but I want to know from them where they want to reach in the next three years because it won't be possible to see the outcomes if they set a five or seven-year target,” Papon revealed.
