Secluded from the society, the nomads, river gypsies to be particular, are passing days in distress as there is no monetary help available to them at the moment. Though the pandemic has hit cross-sections of people hard, the nomads have probably skipped our attention as they live in seclusion, away from the locality.
According to unofficial estimates, the number of nomads is about 500,000 in our country and around 10,000 nomadic groups roam around Bangladesh. Such a large number of people have been excluded from social safety net as well since they do not live in any particular area.
In the face of such reality they are suffering from financial crisis since people are also not allowing them into their locality to carry out their profession. Under such circumstances these groups of people are in urgent need of help.
