There is no road, but a bridge stands, there is a huge pond on the other side of the bridge. The bridge was built three years ago at the expenses of about Tk 24 lakh in the interest of whom? This question arises in the mind of people. The bridge, which was built unplanned at the expenses of around Tk 24 lakh by the Pakundia Upazila Project Implementation Office in Kishoreganj, has been of no use to the locals.
According to the office of the Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO), the bridge was constructed on the Paduakhali canal beside Hossendi College of the Upazila under Disaster Management & Relief Ministry’s financing in the financial year 2016-17. The 30 foot-long bridge was constructed at the cost of Tk. 23 lakh 45 thousand. Construction of the bridge was completed on May, 2017.
In Sarajamine, there is an old bridge over the Paduakhali canal on the northeastern corner of Hossendi College, on the road from Pakundia to Hossendi to Patuabhanga. Three years ago another bridge was built 20 yards on the west. As there is a pond one side of the road, the bridge worth Tk 24 lakh cannot be used in three years.
Locals said if you need to go to the college pond then you can pass on the old bridge, which is on the side of the road. There are many places in the upazila where such a bridge used to transport thousands of people. Now this bridge is not working. Hossendi Adarsh College Principal, Rakib Uddin Moshayeb said, Paduakhali canal is on the other side of the college's pond. The bridge was constructed to facilitate easy access to the campus by crossing the canal in front of the college gate.
However, it is not known when the building will be built. Because of this, the bridge built at around twenty-four lakh of no use. Hossendi Union Parishad Chairman Md. Mojibur Rahman Akand said. This bridge has not worked in three years. I know why the Pakundia Upazila Project Implementation Office built it.
Pakundia Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Rowshan Karim said, the Project Implementation Office builds bridges at an important place where there is no road-bridge on the two sides of the canal, which is difficult for public transport. As I was not in charge at that time of construction of the bridge over Paduakhali canal in front of Hossendi College, I do not know why it was constructed.
