No room for drug addicts, terrorists and extortionists in AL

Sheikh Helal Uddin says at Bagerhat Awami League conference

Bangabandhu's nephew Sheikh Helal Uddin MP has said terrorists and extortionists have no room in the Awami League. 

“Please do not let any such party leaders, individuals and their family members in the Awami League. The lifelines of the Awami League are the grassroots leaders. Grassroots leaders have survived the wrath during the party’s bad days and during 1/11 and only those trusted leaders and activists should be evaluated, ” he said. 

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the Bagerhat District Awami League's triennial council at Khanjahan Ali College ground on Monday afternoon, Sheikh Helal Uddin MP said the court had sentenced Khaleda Zia and she must be released through the court. But, if in the name of her release any chaos is created, the government will suppress it.

Earlier in the morning, party leaders and activists from nine upazilas, 75 unions and wards of the district assembled at the council with banners and festoons.

 Central Awami League leader Piyush Kanti Bhattacharya inaugurated the council at 12 noon. Bagerhat district Awami League President and Bagerhat-4 constituency MP Alhaj Dr. Mozammel Hossain presided over the function, among others, Joint General Secretary of Awami League, Abdur Rahman, Khulna City Mayor Talukder Abdul Khalek, Central Awami League members Mirza Azam, Abu Saeed Swapan, SM Ram Kamal, Habib Al Kamal, Habib Alam Amr. Young MP Sheikh Tamnoy, district Awami League general secretary Sheikh Kamruzzaman Tuku, who is the seat of the party. HM Badiuzzaman Sohag, former president of the Central Chhatra League. Naqib Najibul Haque Nazu, the organizing secretary of the district Awami League were present at the conference. Meanwhile, during the second phase of the council, Mozammel Hossain was named as the President and Sheikh Kamruzzaman Tuku as the General Secretary and Khan Habibur Rahman as the Joint General Secretary. The committee was formed through negotiation. Most of which are former committees.
