No one died starving in pandemic: Agro Minister

Agriculture Minister Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said that not a single person of the country died in starvation during the Covid-19 pandemic. He said the whole world was going through a great crisis due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various initiatives since the beginning of the transition to address this crisis in Bangladesh. She has emphasized on increasing food production and on the other hand, she stood by the people with massive relief and food aid. As a result, not a single person has died of starvation in the last year and a half. There is no food shortage in the country at present and there is no wailing about food.

 Agriculture Minister made this remark while he was speaking as the chief guest at a programme to distribute food items among the poor, helpless, destitute and unemployed people in Dhaka's Shampur on Monday morning. Relief and Social Welfare Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League Sheikh Md. Azahar organized the event.

Mentioning that the Awami League under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina has always been and is by the side of the people of this country, the Minister said, "We have seen drought and famine in the country even in the last rule of BNP in 2004-06. People died of starvation. Even then, the Awami League under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina stood by the people with food and help.”

At the same time, the minister criticized the BNP and civil society representatives and called on them to stand by the people in the Covid-19 crisis.

 Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League President Abu Ahmed Monnafi presided over the meeting. Bangladesh Awami League Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam MP, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, former Member of Parliament Advocate Sanjida Khanam, General Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League Humayun Kabir spoke at the programme.
