Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque has alleged Shahabuddin and Manik gangs were behind all malpractice, damage and loss of the Mongla port.
The KCC was addressing to the journalists after distributing food materials to the Corona affected people. Mongla Port Shramik Karmachari Sangha arranged the porgramme at the Mongla port area on Friday morning.
The programme was attended, among others, by Upazila Chairman and the Vice-Chairman Abu Taher Howlaser and Iqbal Hossain respectively, UNO Rahat Mannan and Officer-in-Charge of Mongla thana Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury.
Talukder Abdul Khaleque said that they (Shahabuddin and Manik) gangs were evicted from Mongla Port but were permitted to stay there on condition that they would stay without creating any trouble. Their activities were against the local people, labourers and the development of the port.
But, it is alleged, they are being instigated by the upcoming Chairman of the port, he added.
The Department of Labour has also been informed that the incumbent Labourers' Union of the Port is legal and the former one is illegal.
In this connection, he warned that whoever be the chairman and try to rehabilitate the miscreants will thwart the development of the port and the chairman will also face action for the deed.
He further mentioned, the port would run as usual as it is being run in a congenial atmosphere. If such congenial atmosphere is damaged, he will, by no way, will be allowed to stay as the chairman.
