Advocate Subash Chandra Bose and Nizam Uddin Khan Nilu have been made president and general secretary of Narail district unit Awami League respectively for the next three years.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced names of the president and general secretary at second session of triennial council of the unit held on the premises of Narail Government Victoria College on Tuesday.

Earlier, Awami League Presidium Member Advocate Pijush Kanti Bhattacharya inaugurated the council. Obaidul Quader addressed the event as the chief guest with district AL President Advocate Subash Chandra Bose in the chair.

Awami League Joint Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Abdur Rahman, Organising Secretary Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, MP, Sheikh Tanmoy, MP, cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortuza, MP, SM Kamal Hossain, Parveen Zaman Kalpona, Kabirul Haque Mukti, MP, Sheikh Sharhan Naser Tonmoy, MP, chairman of Narail Zila Parishad Advocate Shorab Hossain Biswas and Narail Mayor Md. Jahangir Biswas  addressed the programme, among others. General secretary of district AL Nizamuddin Khan Nilu conducted the council.

Obaidul Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said that there would be no concession granted to the leaders and activists facing corruption charges. Corrupt people across the country are under watching. Action will be taken against them, he added.

He called upon the Awami League men to make the ongoing cleansing campaign a success. He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has started the cleansing drive inside the party aiming to form committees with dedicated leaders, removing the hybrid ones from the party. None will be allowed to form pocket committee after assuming the power. Those, who want to do politics of AL, they have to love the party and its grassroots level leaders and activists,” he said.

Obaidul Quader also said that it is not possible to become a leader overnight spending millions through hoisting banners and festoons during councils. So, it would be better to expend money for the poor activists of the party instead of spending for the banners and festoons, he added.

Highlighting tremendous development in the last one decade, he said that Bangladesh has graduated to a developing country and it is a role model of development in the world. He said that Sheikh Hasina has brought distant dream to near. Construction of Padma Bridge, house-to-house electricity, setting up of Ruppur nuclear power plant, setting up Paira sea port, launching of metro rail in Dhaka, launching Bangabandhu satellite, sea conquest carrying various evidences. The country has reached the highway of development today. Bangladesh is a role model for development because Sheikh Hasina is in power, he added.

Mahbubul Alam Hanif said that toothless response would be given if BNP tried to create anarchy in  name of movement. “If  BNP agitates politically, we will deal  politically. But if they try to create anarchy in the name of agitation, a collective response will be given,” he said.
