No Alternative for Technology in Modern Healthcare: ICT Senior Secretary

Under the project titled “Digital Sylhet City (2nd Revised)” being implemented by the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) of the ICT Division, the “Health Service Management System” is going to implement for the smooth operation at the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet. The Tripartite MoU signing and exchange ceremony between the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and BCC was held on 30 November 2022, Wednesday afternoon at BCC conference room at Agargaon ICT Tower, Dhaka.

The Senior secretary of the ICT Division  N M Zeaul Alam PAA was present as the chief guest at the program. BCC Executive Director Ranajit Kumar presided over the event.

The Project Director of Digital Sylhet City Mohidur Rahman Khan on behalf of BCC, The Director of MIS and Line Director of HIS & eHealth Professor Dr Shahadat Hossain on behalf of the DGHS and the Director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital Brig Gen Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan signed the MoU.

Representatives from the ICT Division, DGHS and senior officials of BCC were present at the event.

As the chief guest at the program, the ICT Senior Secretary N M Zeaul Alam said that every person in the country is getting the benefits of the implementation of Digital Bangladesh. IT is being used in almost all fields including education, health, industry, business & commerce as a necessity of daily life. He said that the use of information technology in health services is very important. As a result of the development of technology, it is clear that smart technology will settle a big place in healthcare. He also said that in the modern world there is no alternative to technology in the medical field. Therefore, in addition to providing treatment, it will be possible to ensure the provision of better services if the appropriate use of ICT is brought into the management of hospitals or medical centers.

Software with 31 modules is being developed under the “Health Service Management System” under implementation at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. For the proper implementation of this system, a modular data center and necessary computer hardware and networking equipment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital are in progress funded by the Digital Sylhet City Project. The Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital Authority will perform the responsibility of its maintenance and management after the smooth implementation of this program from the project office. Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has been engaged as a consulting institution to review and monitor the smooth implementation of this program. Through its proper implementation, the project authorities believe that it will be possible to ensure easy and quick access to services from the hospital due to the digital service system for the benefit of technology for the people of Sylhet and related areas.
