Although the Australian cricket summer is still some time away, the excitement is already palpable. November will see the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy contested against India, a five-match Test series that will undoubtedly capture the cricketing world's attention. Following this, the focus will shift to the Big Bash League (BBL).
Franchise teams are already making preparations for one of the most glamorous leagues in cricket. To date, Shakib Al Hasan is the only Bangladeshi player to have featured in the BBL. However, each year, several Bangladeshi stars express their interest. For the 2025 season, the list of interested players is notably longer.
This year's draft will take place on 1st September in Melbourne, with nine Bangladeshi stars having registered their interest. Among them, at least seven are regulars in the national team. However, only six of these players have made themselves available for the entire tournament.
Among the pacers, Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib are the most promising names. Both performed admirably for Bangladesh in the last T20 World Cup. Rishad is particularly effective in the finishing role, with leg-spin being his natural talent since the early days of his career. Tanzim Sakib is also a significant asset for the country's pace attack.
Both players have indicated that they will be available for 6 to 9 matches, including the final. Another national team player, opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim, has also registered under the same conditions.
Six players have registered for the entire season. These include pacer Hasan Mahmud, wicketkeeper-batsman Zakir Ali Anik, and all-rounders Mohammad Saifuddin and Shamim Hossain Patwari. The list also includes batsman Rony Talukdar and spinner Taijul Islam.
For the Women's Big Bash League, Jahanara Alam is the only Bangladeshi player to have registered. She has also expressed her availability for the entire season.
