A gang of miscreants have allegedly set an NGO office owned by Jhenaidah district council chairman candidate Harun Or Rashid on fire in the night of Thursday. Although there was no major damage by the fore, it had created panic among the staff of the office as well as local residents.
Kamal Parvez, manager of Srizony Foundation, a national level voluntary organization established by Harun Or Rashid at Narikelbaria Bazer under Jhenaidah Sadar upazila, a candidate in the upcoming district council polls in Jhenaidah said some four to five persons entered in to the office with a drum of petrol and set the office on fore at about 8.30 PM. Harun has been contesting in the polls with pineapple.
The supporters of another candidate Kanak Kanti Das, fighting with the symbol spectacles (chasma) might lead the attack and beaten up a number of people. They had earlier conducted an attack on the office earlier.
They had filed a case in this regard with Jhenaidah Sadar police station, he said.
Narikelbaria Bazer police outpost sub inspector (SI) Billal Hossain when conducted said they were informed about the fire incident at Srizony Foundation office and visited the office immediately after the incident. The police will go on action if any complaint was lodged with the police.
