Zakia Sultana Sumi (14), an adolescent, newlywed housewife was strangled to death at Nijkulihar village under Kashopara union of Manda upazila of Naogoan district on Friday evening.
Police arrested her husband Wahed Ali Joy (22) son of Imran Hossain Babu of Nijkulihar village in connection with the murder. Victim Sumi is the daughter of Zahidul Islam of Rangamatia village of the same union. After recovering the dead body of Sumi, police sent it to the morgue of Naogaon Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Local sources informed, Sumi and Joy loved one another and they married four months ago. Soon after the marriage both the husband and wife quarrelled frequently as Joy and his family members tortured Sumi demanding dowry. It is alleged, parents of Joy and other inlaws of Sumi tortured Sumi throughout the Friday.
Zahidul Islam, father of Sumi informed, Joy married Sumi by trapping her in love using mobile phone. Soon after the marriage, Joy and his family members were regularly torturing Sumi demanding Taka two lakh dowry. At a stage of torture, Joy and his family members killed Sumi by strangulating her and then hanging her dead body with the grill of the window. Tarequr Rahman Sarker, Inspector( Investigation) of Manda Police station informed, the dead body of Sumi wrapped in a scarf with the grill of the window was found on Friday night.
Police recovered the dead body from the spot and sent it to the morgue for autopsy. Blood was seen spilling through the throat and mouth of the victim that is why parents of Sumi claimed the body of Sumi was hanged with the grill of the window after killing her by suffocation.
Officer in Charge of Manda Police station informed, preliminary it is thought the incident of murder occurred as a result of family feud. However, he said, the real reason of the death would be clear after the autopsy report.
Asma Khatun, mother of Sumi, has filed a case accusing four persons in this connection. Police arrested Joy in connection with the murder of his wife and sent him to jail custody on Saturday.
