The MBBS admission test for private medical colleges will be held on January 17, 2025. This year, there are significant changes aimed at easing the financial burden on students and streamlining the admission process.
Traditionally, students had to pay the entire course fee upfront, which was often difficult for many families. Starting in the 2024-25 academic year, however, students will be able to pay the fees in three installments. The new payment plan will require 60% of the fee to be paid at the time of admission, 20% before the First Professional Examination, and the remaining 20% before the Third Professional Examination.
In addition to changes in the fee structure, the medical college admission exam itself will see a reduction in the total marks. The exam will now be worth 200 marks, down from the previous 300 marks.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) clarified that this adjustment is due to the disruptions caused by the pandemic. Many students who passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) did not sit for some exams, including those in biology.
As a result, HSC results were based on students' SSC marks. To accommodate this, the admission test scoring system has been recalibrated. The 200-mark exam score will now be converted to a 100-point scale, taking both SSC and HSC results into account.
