NU eases GPA requirements for admission

New application deadline 28 February

The National University has announced significant changes to its admission process for the academic year 2023–24, including an extension of the application deadline and a reduction in GPA requirements for prospective undergraduate students.

The application period for first-year undergraduate admission to National University-affiliated colleges for the academic year 2023–24 has been extended. Initially set to close on February 18, the deadline has now been extended to February 28, providing prospective students with additional time to submit their applications.

In a departure from previous years, admissions for undergraduates will be solely based on the results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations. Consequently, there will be no admissions test conducted this year.

The National University Academic Council, in a decision made on February 10, has revised the eligibility criteria for admission applications, particularly in terms of GPA requirements. For students in the Business Management and Diploma-in-Commerce streams of Humanities/Business Education and Technology, the minimum required GPA has been reduced to 6 in both SSC and HSC. Previously, a GPA of 6.50 was necessary for humanities students and 7.00 for business management and diploma in commerce students.

Students from the Science and Technical Vocational streams will now need a combined GPA of 6.50 in SSC and HSC, down from the previous requirement of 7.00.

These changes aim to make higher education more accessible to a broader range of students by lowering the GPA threshold for admission. The extended application period provides additional opportunities for students to apply, ensuring that more aspiring undergraduates have the chance to pursue their academic goals at National University-affiliated colleges.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to take advantage of the extended deadline and revised eligibility criteria to submit their applications promptly.

The National University remains committed to providing quality education and fostering academic excellence among its students.

The National University's decision to extend the application deadline and lower GPA requirements reflects its dedication to inclusivity and equitable access to higher education.  These adjustments are poised to positively impact prospective students, facilitating their journey into the realm of higher learning.
