A housewife was stabbed by her male neighbour after he failed to rape her at her home in Sadar upazila of Jashore on Wednesday night.
The woman was admitted to Jashore General Hospital with serious injuries.
The suspect Shah Alam, son of late Nowfel Dafadar from same village, fled the area since the incident.
According to the victim's account, Shah Alam had long been making immoral proposal to her that she had been ignoring.
On Wednesday, Shah Alam entered her house without her the knowledge of the family at 9pm and tried to raped. As, she resisted, he stabbed her before fleeing the scene, she added.
Dr. Abdur Rashid of the hospital said condition of the woman was stable and she underwent treatment at the Women's Surgery Ward.
Local Union Parisad chairman and member visited the victims house at night after the incident.
No one reported to police yet and legal action would up after receiving a complaint, said Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Jashore Kotwali Police Station.
