A contingent of 75 members of the Bangladesh Navy left Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport on Wednesday to participate in the UN peacekeeping mission United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Bangladesh Navy Contingent will join Naval Warship 'Sangram' deployed in Lebanon under 'Bancon-13'. Chief Staff Officer of Chattogram Naval Region, Captain Mohammad Faizul Haque bid farewell to the naval personnel going to Lebanon. Earlier on October 2, a pioneer group of 35 sailors joined UNIFIL.
It mentioned noted that since 2010 Bangladesh Navy warships have been participating in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon with the sole efforts of the honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of the current government. As a member of the Multinational Maritime Task Force in the Mediterranean Sea of Lebanon, the only warship of the Bangladesh Navy in the subcontinent is engaged in establishing world peace. The currently deployed Navy warship 'Sangram' is working efficiently to counter illegal arms and ammunition infiltration into Lebanese territory. In addition, the ship is conducting maritime interdiction operations in Lebanese waters, monitoring suspicious ships and aircraft, rescue operations on accident ships and providing necessary training to Lebanese military members, providing regular treatment to Bangladeshis living in Lebanon. 2,688 naval personnel have successfully completed the mission, its deployment in Lebanon since 2010. Bangladesh naval personnel in Lebanon continue to perform their assigned duties with great sincerity, dedication and efficiency. This proud participation of Bangladesh Navy has enhanced the country's image and reputation in the international arena.
