17 Bangladesh Navy ships, 2 Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) and 2 helicopters have completed all necessary preparations for deployment in Chattogram, Khulna and Mongla naval areas for emergency rescue, relief and medical assistance after Cyclone 'Sitrang'. These ships have already been prepared with relief materials to provide emergency rescue, relief and medical assistance to sea and coastal areas at the earliest. Naval contingents have been kept ready for deployment in post-cyclone coastal areas.
Search and rescue operations will be conducted in the Bay of Bengal based on the information provided by the Navy's MPA and helicopters in conducting rescue operations in sea and coastal disaster areas after the cyclone. For the first phase of rescue operations, Banauja Sea Expedition-Cox's Bazar, St. Martin and Teknaf areas, Banauja Padma-Kutubdia and other areas, Banauja Hatiya and LCT 193-Sandwip and Hatiya adjoining areas, LCVP 11-Patuakhali area and LCVP 12-Pirojpur and Barguna areas have been deployed. Special medical teams will be engaged in providing free medical services with life-saving medicines, saline and other materials for emergency medical assistance in post-cyclone affected areas. Additional ships and contingents of the Navy will be deployed in the second phase after monitoring the intensity of the storm and the incidence of injuries.
