A college student has committed suicide at Garmati Moddopara village under Boraigram upazila in Natore early on Friday. He has committed suicide for not getting transfer certificate (TC) for his college, said family members.

The deceased was identified as Johurul Islam, 18, son of Roich Uddin of the village. He was a student of 1st year of Kadirabad Cantonment Sapar’s College of Bagatipara upazila.

Sanower Hossain, sub-inspector and duty officer of Boraigram police station, said that only son of Roich Uddin was admitted to the Army-run Sapper College after passing SSC examination with high ambition. He has two more sisters. He has been studying at the college facing economic crisis as his father is poor.

In order to reduce the cost of his education, he wanted to take TC from Sappers College. He wanted to study at Rajapur Degree College near his house. He applied for TC. But Rajapur Degree College was not able to enroll his this year without TC.

For this reason, Johurul became angry and committed suicide in his house.

Johurul’s father said that his son got the TC from the college, but it was delayed. So the Rajapur Degree College authorities asked to take admission freshly.

Duty officer of Baraigram police station SI Sanowar Hossain confirmed the matter. He said that the body was sent to the hospital for autopsy.
