The National Rabindra Sangeet Conference, an annual gathering of the country's foremost Tagore singers, commenced today with a poignant blend of reverence for the great poet and solidarity against the recent atrocities in Gaza perpetrated by Israel. The event, held at the esteemed National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), opened its doors at 10:00 am amidst an atmosphere charged with cultural significance and global awareness.

Esteemed theatre personality Ramendu Majumdar inaugurated the conference, with Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan gracing the occasion as the chief guest. Notably, the conference also saw the felicitation of renowned artist Mustafa Monwar with the prestigious Rabindra Padak, a testament to his contributions to the realm of arts and culture.

The proceedings began with soul-stirring renditions of Rabindranath Tagore's timeless compositions, including "Nishidin Bhorosha Rakhish", "Ore Mon", and "Hobei Hobe", serving as a homage to the luminary whose works continue to resonate across generations.

A significant highlight of the event was the unequivocal expression of solidarity with the victims of the Gaza genocide, reflecting a collective stance in support of humanity and peace. This poignant gesture underscored the conference's commitment not only to the preservation and celebration of Tagore's legacy but also to the broader values of compassion and empathy.

The press conference preceding the event, held at the Chhayanaut Cultural Centre in the capital, saw the presence of luminaries such as the general editor of the committee and distinguished dancer Sharmila Bandyopadhyay, Emeritus Professor Atiur Rahman, and musicologist Sanjida Khatun, among others. Their participation underscored the significance of the conference as a platform for intellectual exchange and cultural enrichment.

As the conference unfolds over the coming days, it promises to be a confluence of artistic brilliance, scholarly discourse, and social consciousness. With performances, seminars, and workshops scheduled to enrich the cultural landscape, the National Rabindra Sangeet Conference stands as a beacon of harmony and enlightenment in a world fraught with strife and discord.
