Today is the National Mourning Day and 47th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. When this day, the August 15 comes around every year the whole Bangali nation feels pain, turn emotional and shed tears. On this occasion, we are paying glowing tributes to Bangabandhu, the greatest son of the soil in thousand years.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members were brutally killed by some disgruntled army men on the fateful night of August 15, 1975 and this carnage is touted as the ugliest chapter of the nation’s history. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, escaped the planned assassination with her sister Sheikh Rehana as they were staying overseas then.

The self-confessed killers of August 15 did not assassinate Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of Bangladesh alone, but also killed 16 other members of his family, friends and relatives and this carnage is considered as the ugliest chapter of the nation’s history. Sheikh Mujib’s assassination descended a pall of gloom and spread a sense of deep sadness among the people in the country and across the globe.

All-out steps must be taken to unearth

 the behind the scene

plot of the August 15, 1975

carnage entirety

The martyrs included Bangabandhu’s wife Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, his sons Sheikh Kamal, Sheikh Jamal and Sheikh Russell, daughters-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rosy Jamal, brother Sheikh Naser, brother-in-law Abdur Rab Serniabat, nephew and eminent journalist Sheikh Fazlul Huq Moni, his pregnant wife Arzoo Moni and Colonel Jamil.

We also offer prayers seeking eternal peace of departed souls of all martyrs, who had been brutally assassinated during the black night of August 15 in 1975. Several facts have been unearthed over conspiracies before the Bangabandhu assassination as the Awami League is in office for third consecutive terms. It has been found that some local and foreign individuals including Bangladesh Nationalist Party founder Ziaur Rahman, as well as agencies, were involved in the conspiracy to kill Bangabandhu.

A framework has been readied for forming a commission to unearth the behind the scene plotters of August 15, 1975 carnage that saw the brutal assassination of the nation’s founding father Bangabandhu and most of his family members.

So, when an independent commission will be formed our future generation would be able to know about the killers, masterminds and others who had created the plot of killing of Bangabandhu and responsible for rehabilitating the killers. Otherwise, the next generation will not know the real history. The day should be observed with a fresh vow to materialise the dreams of Bangabandhu to build a “Sonar Bangla” and to bring back all the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu to be executed. Besides, all-out steps must be taken to unearth the behind the scene plot of the August 15, 1975 carnage entirety to stop recurrence of such conspiracies in future.
