National Fisheries Week-2020 observed

National Fisheries Week-2020 was observed at Megchami Union in Madhukhali Upazila of Faridpur with the slogan 'Increase fish production, build a happy and prosperous country'. 

A documentary on fish farming was displayed in the hallroom of Megchami Union Parishad under the organisation of Madhukhali Upazila Fisheries Extension Department from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.

Later a discussion meeting was held. Upazila Senior Fisheries Extension Officer Debabrata Biswas was the chief guest while Megchami UP Chairman Md. Hasan Ali presided over the discussion.

Debabrata Biswas, senior fisheries extension officer of the upazila, said, "Fishery resources are being exported abroad after meeting the demand in the country due to the timely action plan of the present government. Despite the increase in population, country’s demand for protein is being met due to the cultivation of fish. The recent corona pandemic has not had any adverse effect on the sector”.

Speaking on the occasion, Megchami UP Chairman said, "We are eternally grateful to the Prime Minister for the initiatives taken by the government in the fisheries sector to fill the employment and meat deficit in the country. Everyone needs to work towards the betterment of this sector in the future”.

The event was attended by fish farmers and young entrepreneurs from Megchami area where marginal entrepreneurs were requested to resolve complications in obtaining government loans and incentives.
