The 49th National Cooperatives Day observed in Netrakona on Saturday with the theme ‘Philosophy of Bangabandhu, Development in Cooperatives’.
On the occasion, Netrakona District Administration, Cooperative Department, District Cooperative Union and the members of Cooperative Societies jointly organised a discussion at Public Hall.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Netrakona Kazi Abdur Rahman presided over the discussion, while president of Netrakona District Cooperative Union Kamrunnesa Asraf Dina delivered the welcome speech.
It was addressed, among others, by Mayor of Netrakona Pourasava Nazrul Islam Khan, Additional Police Super Faquruzzaman Jwel, former commander and freedom fighter Nurul Amin, Sadar upazila vice-chairman Abdul Kaleque, Sadar upazila woman vice-chairman Tuhin Akter and District Cooperative Officer Mufazzal Husain.
Kazi Abdur Rahman in his presidential speech stressed the need for formation of village multipurpose cooperative societies to rid the country of poverty completely.
He said that the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is formatting multipurpose cooperative societies to protect the weaker section of the society.
He called upon the people to come forward in the cooperative movement to play a vital role to assist the government in order to making Bangladesh a hunger and poverty free country. “If we can form rural multipurpose cooperative societies, poverty will be stamped out completely from the society,” he said.
