NAP wants state of emergency to combat COVID-19

Bangladesh National Awami Party (Bangladesh NAP) has called upon the President and the Prime Minister to declare state of emergency in the country to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Speaking at a memorial meeting on Saturday, the party’s secretary general M Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan said that all the political parties should stand beside the common people, forgetting little differences to prevent the coronavirus. In this backdrop, issuance of a Proclamation of Emergency under Article 141 (A) of the Constitution is needed to face the situation, he added.

Bangladesh NAP arranged the memorial meeting on Md Oziullah Ozu, central committee member of the party and its Narayaganj district unit president, at Jadu Mia Auditorium at Nayapaltan in the capital.  Oziullah Ozu died on March 12.  

Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan presided over the memorial meeting, while it was attended, among others, by the party’s vice chairman Swapan Kumar Saha, organising secretary Md Kamal Bhuiyan, Dhaka city unit president Md Shahidunnabi Dablu, joint secretary Md Shamim Bhuiyan and Md Amzad Hossain. 

The speakers discussed from the life of Md Oziullah Ozu and said that he was a patriotic leader following the ideals of country’s legendary leader Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani. 

A special munzat was offered at the memorial meeting, seeking salvation for the department soul of Md Oziullah Ozu and relief from coronavirus.
