A group art exhibition titled ‘Nandonpot’ has begun at Gallery Chitrak in Dhaka, featuring the works of 31 artists from different generations. The exhibition was inaugurated with the presence of eminent artist Professor Hamiduzzaman Khan, art critic Moinuddin Khaled, and Mohammad Enamul Haque, Country Chief Risk Officer of Standard Chartered Bank. The exhibition will remain open till June 30.

The exhibition highlights the vibrant imagination, deep emotions, and enduring appeal of contemporary subcontinental art. Participating artist and writer Syed Golam Dastagir remarked, “When language fails, it is art that continues the conversation, evoking not reason but resonance, not explanation but experience.”

‘Nandonpot’ presents a wide range of artistic expressions through different genres and media. Some artworks question reality, while others tell emotional stories

through abstraction. Many explore the beauty of nature and its creatures.

Among the notable works, Prof Anisuzzaman Anis’s ‘Urban Musing’ series stands out with its soft hues and simple yet striking depictions of cityscapes. Prof Jamal Ahmed’s charcoal and pastel sketches capture moody studio scenes with bursts of bright colours. Kamruzzoha and Fariha Zeba’s abstract paintings offer a soulful experience, while Sourav Chowdhury’s ‘Eternal Existence’ echoes the intricate Nakshi Kantha patterns.

Artists Md Hashem Sarwar and Md Saiful Islam brought familiar rural scenes of boats and rivers, and Associate Professor Abdus Sattar Toufiq presented thought-provoking pieces with minimal yet bold colours. Prof Sheikh Mohammad Rokonuzzaman’s warm-toned paintings reflect life around Dhaka University’s Fine Arts Institute.

A striking piece by Khing Shai Mong Marma features a large oil-painted portrait of an elderly Marma woman surrounded by Tokay geckos, symbolising peace and the overlooked lives of indigenous communities in the hills.
