Nagarpur Chowdhury Bari attracts tourists

Nagorpur Chowdhury Bari is a zamindar house located in Nagarpur upazila of Tangail. So far, it is known by history, the Chowdhury dynasty started zamidari in Nagarpur from the source of Subiddha-Kha. 

Jadunath Chowdhury was the first man of the Chowdhury dynasty. He lived in Nagorpur Chowdhury Bari on about 54 acres of land. It is known, he planned to decorate Nagarpur in the style of Kolkata. From here, he managed the zamidari.

Next to the theater there was a lovely zoo having peacock, kakatoa, deer, carcass etc. withi great decoration. The interior design of the building is made of lovely white stone.  The Chowdhury house is built in a mixture of western and Mughal culture with a unique aesthetic beauty. 

In the nineteenth century, Zamidar Jadunath Chowdhury established Nagarpur Zamidar Bari in Nagarpur Upazila. Jadunath Chowdhury, the first man of the house and his descendants were Upedra Mohan Chowdhury, Jagadindra Mohan Chowdhury and Shashank Mohan Chowdhury. 

The river Dhaleshwari flows to the east of Nagarpur Chowdhury House and the river Jamuna flows to the west of this house. He built this Chowdhury house at Nagarpur as centered on the Kolkata waterway. 

Later, Satish Chandra Chowdhury, the eldest son of Upedra Mohan Chowdhury, established schools, colleges, temples, charitable dispensaries, playgrounds and hat bazaars at Nagarpur. In recognition of Satish Chandra Chowdhury's philanthropic work, the contemporary British government conferred him with the title of "Rai Bahadur".

The four-storey Nagarpur zamidar house, built on a mixture of Western and Mughal culture, has a number of small and large houses, the interior of which was adorned with beautiful white stone. Among the other structures of Chowdhury's house includes the main building, the Nahabat Khana, the guest house, the horse-drawn carriage with artistic ornamental sesame lock, the hanging hall of the puja archana, the fairy building and the Rangmahal. There is a lake called "Upendra Sarobar" on 11 acres of land on the south side of the house.

The British government conferred the title of Rai Bahadur to Satish Chandra Roy Chowdhury, the eldest son of Upendra Mohan Chowdhury, in recognition of his services to the general people. The younger son Suresh Chandra Roy Chowdhury is relatively westernized. He was a man of fancy nature than many others. He was very sporty. He was the founding secretary of East Bengal Club, a famous football club in the sub-continent. Built in a beautiful aesthetic combination of Western and Mughal culture, this sitting room as nahabatkhana on the upper floor of the building. 

After the partition of the country in 1947, the then government acquired all the properties of the Chowdhury House, a building interiored with lovely white stone. Presently, Nagarpur Women's Degree College has been established in this main building of Chowdhury Bari. Principal of the college Anisur Rahman informed that the Chowdhury Bari building is currently being used as Nagarpur Women's Degree College. Women from remote areas come to study here which is a huge contribution to education. Presently, 3 thousands of students are studying in this educational institution.

Mir Liton, a local resident, said that Chowdhury's house as a zamidar's house is a great  artistic work that attracts so many people.
