Nabinagar farmers happy with Boro paddy yield

Published : 23 Apr 2024 10:01 PM

Boro paddy has been cultivated on 150 bighas of land at Lahari village under Rasullabad Union in Nabinagar upazila for the first time, bringing smiles to the faces of farmers in the area.

Earlier, either Robi crops were cultivated at most of the land or the lands remained uncultivated due to lack of water during the dry season.

In the last fiscal year, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) set up ‘One Cusec Solar NLP’ irrigation scheme under Cumilla-Chandpur-Brahmanbaria District Irrigation area Development Project on local Upazila Agriculture Department’s advice.

Around 300 bighas of land has been brought under the coverage of cultivation after implementation of the scheme.

Kawsar, a farmer, said they have cultivated Boro in the area for the first time due to irrigation facilities.

Farmer Swapan Miah said he cultivated Boro on two bighas of land for the first time.

Expressing gratitude to all concerned, he hoped that he would get good yield this time.

Rasullabad Union Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Samir Chandra Mazumder said they have provided seeds and fertilizers to the farmers.

They have also given advice after visiting the field, he said.
