Published : 29 Jun 2025 09:44 PM

Uncertainty looms large over the upcoming T20 Asia Cup cricket, the broadcast channel has already started the promotion of the Asia Cup when only three captains are seen in their poster and Pakistan’s captain is absent in their poster.

The online version of the Anandabazar Patrika published a news with a question mark ‘Will the Asia Cup without Pakistan’?, said citing the broadcast channel’s poster, as the Pakistan captain is absent in their poster.

According to earlier plans, the Asia Cup was scheduled to take place in July 12-28 in India with eight teams, five Test nations, Bangladesh India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan along with Hong Kong, UAE and Oman. Despite the tournament was decided to organise with eight teams, the broadcast channel in their demo kept three captains out of eight, said the Anandabazar.

As Indian cricket board yet to announce anything on this issue or any of the officials of the BCCI did not breath regarding this.

However, the questions came up from different quarters - does it mean that Asia Cup will be held without Pakistan? - according the Anandabazar.

On the other hand, an English daily of Pakistan, the Pakistan Observer published that the uncertainty over India’s participation in the Asia Cup continues.

According to the Pakistan’s English daily - “Uncertainty to loom over India’s participation in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025”.

The Asia Cup is likely to be held from September 12 to 28, with the UAE emerging as the probable host.

According to the sources, tensions in Pakistan-India relations have cast doubts over the tournament’s smooth conduct. In the 2023 edition, a hybrid model was implemented where India’s matches were hosted in Sri Lanka due to New Delhi’s refusal to play in Pakistan. The two countries have since agreed not to play on each other’s soil, opting instead for neutral venues — a model that was first applied to this year’s Champions Trophy.

The 2024 Asia Cup is scheduled to be hosted by India, but matches are expected to be played in the UAE between September 12 and 28. However, India has yet to formally confirm its participation to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
