In a major administrative development, 34 government offices are set to be established under the proposed Mymensingh Divisional Headquarters Project, aimed at strengthening regional governance and improving public service delivery.

The decision was discussed on Tuesday during a coordination meeting held at the Divisional Commissioner’s Office in Mymensingh, chaired by Divisional Commissioner Md Mokhter Ahmed. The meeting was organised in line with Decision No. 4(03) of the 10th Steering Committee for the project titled “Land Acquisition, Compensation and Rehabilitation for the Establishment of Mymensingh Divisional Headquarters.”

During the meeting, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) and Project Director Tahmina Akhter presented a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the latest progress of the project’s Development Project Proposal (DPP). She informed attendees that the divisional headquarters would be developed on 945 acres of land across the Brahmaputra River, where modern infrastructure and administrative facilities will be constructed.

The project will include administrative buildings, a central examination centre, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, commercial zones, green areas, residential quarters, an international convention centre, a museum, an amphitheatre, sports grounds, water reservoirs, and social infrastructure.

So far, 34 government departments have submitted space allocation requests in accordance with their approved manpower structures. To accommodate families affected by land acquisition, 25 acres of land have been set aside for rehabilitation, where 342 families will be resettled — with nearly 50 percent of the resettlement work already completed.

A representative from the Department of Architecture stated that land development work is in progress but will take time, urging faster project approval to initiate visible construction work.

Divisional Commissioner Md Mokhter Ahmed noted that the headquarters project marks a milestone for the region:

“Land development work has begun, but completing it will take time. Every department will receive space according to its approved organogram. The proposal to create a central examination centre for public exams may also be considered.”

Officials said the project’s implementation will transform Mymensingh into a modern administrative hub, improving governance, accessibility, and citizen services across the division.
