‘MV Haian City’ leaves Ctg port after repair

The Singapore-bound ship 'MV Haian City' collided with another ship at Chittagong Port's Kutubdia Channel.  After a long 65 days of repairs, the ship left Chattogram for Singapore with 1157 TEUS containers.

 The ship left Chattogram port on Tuesday carrying export goods, said Chattogram Port Secretary Md Omar Faruq. The ship MV Haian City was severely damaged on May 16 after a collision between the cargo ship MV Haian City and the oil tanker MT Orion Express.  The ship was then berthed with the help of Tug Kandari 1, 6, 10, 11, Lusai, Jarip-11, Barshan, Prantik Sarwar, Mooring Boat.  Later, the ship was repaired at Karnafhuli Drydock Jetty adjacent to Bangladesh Marine Academy.

According to Chattogram port sources, after the accident on the same day, the ship 'MV Haian City' got into a hole in the cargo hold at the port side and entered the water and tilted 7 degrees.  The draft increased to 10.7 meters due to inflow of water.  At that time a container fell into the water.  However, there were no goods in the container, the port said.  The ship was carrying Tk 800 crore worth of garments and other export items.

Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Md. Omar Faruq said the ship was berthed with a powerful tugboat shortly after the accident.  

As a result, the goods on the ship were not damaged.  The ship set sail for Singapore on Tuesday afternoon with 1157 TEUS containers after repairs.  The ship has been successfully guarded with cargo, which is the port's capability and success.
