Murder is his addiction, he has killed at least 10 persons, nine women and one child cold-blooded during last six-year. He also raped five of the victims before killing them.
This self-confessed, ferocious killer has been identified as Babu Sheikh alias Anowar Hossain alias Anar alias Kalu (55) son of Jaher Ali of village Harishpur under Raninagar upazila of Naogaon.
This vicious serial killer was recently arrested by Natore district police. After his arrest, Babu Sheikh made confessional statement under section 164 to the Judicial Magistrate of Natore.
Babu Sheikh was so witty and amicable that no one doubted him as a killer. Even, he was out of suspicion of police. Some innocent persons have always been implicated and arrested in the murders committed by Babu Sheikh and at least one of those innocent persons were serving jail in the false case.
Natore Police sources informed, Babu Sheikh used to visit villages in guise of fisherman. Often he moved alone or with a couple of his cohorts which he termed as Jal party (Net Party). Police arrested at least seven persons including his only son and his son-in-law (husband of his daughter).
The first victim by Babu Sheikh was Rokeya Begum (45), wife of Osman Gani of Basudevpur village under Naldanga of Natore. On 21 August 2013 night, he along with his three followers entered into the room of Rokeya and raped and killed her before escaping the scene. Rokeya's husband Osman Gani was accused as murderer of the case and he was awarded life term imprisonment by the court. He is still service the jail. After killing, Babu Sheikh could loot only Taka 150 from the room of Rokeya.
On May 6, 2014, class seven student Marium Khatun alias Laboni(13), daughter of Abdur Rashid of village Khajura of Naldanga was killed after rape. Babu Sheikh informed, by using a ladder, he along with his brother-in-law Rais entered into the room of Laboni and both raped her and killed her by pressing pillow over her face. Father of Laboni filed a case accusing unidentified persons. Two local young men were serving in jail in a case filed by police in this connection.
Aftermath of the murders, police became active and babu Sheikh escaped to Dhaka and started to live as a tea-stall worker. He had four wives. Till February-26, this year he did not commit any murder but by being invited by his followers, he returned to Natore again. On 27 February 2019, he and his followers raped and killed house wife Shefali Khatun (48) through strangulation. Her son filed a case accused unidentified persons in this connection.
On May 15,2019 night, Babu Sheikh raped and killed Halima Khatun(20) wife of Mahmudul Hasan of Basila Utterpara village under Naldanga, He also killed Abdullah(2), disabled son of Hlima, by throwing him in the pond beside her house. Father of the victim filed a case accusing Mahabul Alam, brother-in-law of Halima. Even, Mahabul made a confessional statement to the judicial magistrate.Police was now reviewing the authenticity of the statement. Within one month of the murder, Babu Sheikh and his cohorts killed Amena Bewa(58) of the same village. Two persons of the village were arrested and recently released from jail on bail.
From Naldanga, Babu Sheikh went to a relative's house in Tangail. One July-9 night, he killed Samla(60), wife of late Babar of Hatibandha village under Sakhipur upazila at her room. On September-14, he killed Rup Banu Begum (60) wife of Kandhu Khan of village Harikatitola of Mirjpur upazila by entering into her house at night and managed to escape bylooting Taka 44,000 from there. Police failed to trace any clue of these two murders but Babu Sheikh confessed to Natore district police about the murders.
Babu Sheikh and his cohorts committed two murders at the same night in two separate villages at Lalpur upazila of Natore district. Babu Sheikh, Asadul and Rubel entered into the house of Sahera Begum, an Ansar member of Lalpur on October 9 night. They raped Sahera and killed her and escaped by looting a gold chain, ear rings and a mobile phone set. During retreating after the murder, they watched through window the sleeping Amejan Bewa(60) at Jayantapur village and by entering into her room they killed her by wrapping her throat with a scarf. During breaking of glass of the show case, inmates of the house were awakened when they managed to escape.
After looting the mobile phone of Sahera, Babu Sheikh gave it to the son of his brother-in-law Rubel who started to use the mobile phone. By tapping the mobile phone calls, police could understand the movement of the user and at a stage arrested Rubel and his son and based on their information, police arrested Babu Sheikh from Natore railway station. During police interrogation Babu Sheikh confessed his guilt and said, he used to live as fisherman by fishing in villages but being failed to catch enough fish, he joined the Jal party and started stealing and rape and murder. He targeted the women because they were weak.
While talking to a journalist, arrested Babu Sheikh informed, he did not kill one woman after rape because she did not resist but he looted Taka 150 from her possession. He sought mercy and said, he would like to lead a normal life if given a chance.
Liton Kumar Saha, Superintendent of Police of Natore and Akramul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police were the main key-maker of arresting the serial killer Babu Sheikh. Akramul Islam in this connection said, never in his professional life he met with such a dangerous, cold blooded serial killer who committed murder one after another but left no clues. Murder was his addiction. Through his arrest, a professional killer gang has been identified.
Liton Kumar Saha, Superintendent of Police said, Babu Sheikh is an exceptional character in the arena of crime. He did not left any clue after the murder and innocent people might be intricated in cases which should be reinvestigated, he mentioned.
