Murder case accused killed in Jashore ‘gunfight’

A suspected murderer was killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch of Police in Hasimpur Village in Sadar upazila of Jashore on early hours of Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Jewel Hossain 29, son of Amjad Hossain of Hasimpur village.

Maruf Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Jashore district Detectives Branch claimed that Jewel Hossain was the main accused of Ansar member Hossain Ali murder case. 

Additional police superintendent of Jashore Touhidul Islam said that a bunch of miscreants shot Hossain Ali at Hashimpur Bazar on November 30 in 2019. Seven people were arrested on December 14 in the incident. DB police were trying to arrest Jewel and Munna, another accused, and arrested Jewel Hossain from Cox's Bazar on Tuesday night. DB police brought him in Jashore on Wednesday midnight. 

According the information given by Jewel, DB police launched a raid in Hashimpur village around 3am to arrest the other accused Munna.

At this time, Munna and his associates opened fire on the DB police team. Police also fired upon them in return.

During the gunfight accused Jewel was shot. When he was rescued and taken to Jashore General Hospital, doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered a pistol, a one-shooter gun, and 12 bullets from the spot.
