MSC, Abahani win in fourth round

Favourites Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited made their Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), fourth round football matches with winning note on Saturday.

Federation Cup champions Mohammedan win over the services team Bangladesh Police FC by 3-2 at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium, Mymensingh. 

Attacking midfielder Jafar Iqbal led the Black and Whites in the 27th minutes. But their celebration lasted for seven minutes when Police FC’s Colombian forward Mateo Palacios equalized the margin on 34th minute. 

After one all draw first half Mohammedan’s Uzbekistan forward Muzaffarov restored the lead with a gentle push into net from a near post on 70th minute (2-1). 

After eight minutes skipper Souleymane Diabate increased the tally on 78th minutes and that ensured full three points for Mohammedan.  

Saleh Hossain Mian, midfielder of the Police FC reduced the margin in the 84th minute (3-2). 

Mohammedan earned 10 points from four matches with three wins and a draw. They are now in the second position in the points table. 

In the day’s other match at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium, Goplaganj, league runners up Abahani Limited defeated former champions Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra by 3-1.  

Brazilian forward Jonathan Fernandes, who scored two goals, opened the scoring for Abahani in the 12 minutes.

Stewart doubled the lead for Abahani with striking his first at the injury time of the first half (2-0).  

Sheikh Russel KC tried to bounce back in the match. But all their efforts were in vain but apart from reducing a lone goal with midfielder Mohammed Sumon Reza scored on 73rd minute. 

Stewart scored his second and third for Abahani in the 85th minutes.  

From four matches, Abahani earned seven while SK Russel managed four points. Abahani placed third and SK Russel KC are on seventh position in the table.   

Meanwhile, Chittagong Abahani Limited shared points with Brothers Union when the match ended in a 2-2 draw at Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, Munshiganj.

It was second draw for both teams in four matches. Both the teams played four but could not win any of their matches. 

Forward Foysal Mahbubur Rahman Sufil scored two goals on 12th and 53rd minute for Brothers Union when Hemanta Biswas and defender Mohammed Nasir Uddin Chowdhury scored for Chittagong Abahani.
