MSC, Abahani draw their respective matches, Russel win

Big names in the domestic football shared points when Sheikh Russel earned full points in the Bashundhara Bangladesh Premier League football with three matches on the day held at different venues in the country.     

Six times champions Abahani Limited again dropped points when they played 2-2 draw with their Port City counterpart Chittagong Abahani Limited on Saturday.

Held at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium, Goplaganj, both the sides two goals each in each session of the game. 

Cornelius Stewart, who scored both the goals for Abahani Limited led the team on ninth minute when the forward from St. Vincent and the Grenadines double the advantage on 36th minute to lead the opening 45 minutes 2-0.  

But the Port City giants bounced back with the Nigerian forward David Ojukwu struck twice with scoring the first one just on the eleventh moments of the first opening 45 minutes to reduce the tally 1-2.

Inspired by the last moment goal of first half, Ojukwu slammed home another one on 53rd minute to equalise the margin, as Chittagong Abahani forced the six times winners to share points. 

In the day’s another match, Mohammedan Sporting Club also shared points with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club after a goalless draw at the Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium, Mymensingh.

Mohammedan Sporting Club, who appeared in this season with an outstanding approach after winning the Independent Cup and their sensational win against the indomitable Bashundhara Kings in the ongoing league, shared points in an important match with Sheikh Jamal.

Mohammedan, who are in second position in the points table could go closer to the table toppers Bashundhara Kings but after sharing points they now trailing five points. 

However, the traditional Black and White still only the team to remain unbeaten in eight matches at a stretch when their rivals Abahani Limited suffered two defeats and the holders suffered one and that is to Mohammedan.  

Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra, the only team on the day celebrated victory in the league, trounced Brothers Union by 4-1 when their Nigerian forward Selemani Ndikumana slammed a hat-trick. 

Held at the Bashundhara Kings Arena, SK Russel led the first half by 3-0 with Sumon Reza opened the net in the very fifth minute. Selemani Ndikumana of Burundi, who scored hattrick, opened his account on 37th minute to double the margin and two minutes later struck his second to give 3-0 first half lead.  

Selemani Ndikumana completed his hattrick on 59th minute to lead 4-0 when Rabby Hussen Rahul scored the lone goal to reduce the margin for Brothers on 70th minute (4-1).
