Mrinal Sen recalled

The first death anniversary of legendary film-maker of the Indian subcontinent Mrinal Sen was observed in Faridpur on Monday. 

Marking the day, ‘Uthon’, a literary magazine, arranged a discussion at the ancestral home of Mrinal Sen with Prof Altaf Hossain in the chair. Theatre researcher Dr Biplob Saha attended the discussion as the chief guest, while it was addressed, among others, by Mofiz Imam Milon, Md Mujibur Rahman, Abdur Razzak Raza and journalist Billal Hossain.  

The speakers recalled the contributions of the film maestro. 

Born on May 14 in 1923 in Faridpur, Mrinal Sen went to Kolkata in India after finishing high school. He passed away at the age of 95 on December 30 in 2018 at his home in Bhawanipore of Kolkata. 

Along with his contemporaries Satyajit Ray and Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen pioneered the ‘New Wave’ cinema in India. He was a nominated Member of the Indian parliament. e won Dadasaheb Phalke award, Padma Bhushan award and some other awards.
