Mozammel, Jahedul, Jasim, Didar elected new chairmen of 4 upazilas in Ctg

Kazi Mozammel Haque, Mohammad Jahedul Haque, Alhaj Jasim Uddin Ahmed and Didarul Alam Didar have been elected as chairmen of Anwara, Boalkhali, Chandnaish and Patiya upazilas respectively in Chattogram.

They were elected chairmen unofficially after the elections to the four upazilas of the district were held in the 3rd phase of the 6th Upazila Parishad polls on Wednesday.

In Anwara upazila, Kazi Mozammel Haque won the Upazila Parishad election and became chairman getting 58,830 votes with pineapple symbol. His nearest rival Tauhidul Haque Chowdhury got 36,807 votes with Inkpot-pen symbol. Polling was held in 74 centres while voter turnout was 42.27 percent.

Abdul Mannan Manna was elected as vice-chairman in the upazila, getting 31,257 votes with spectacles symbol while Advocate Chumki Chowdhury became woman vice-chairman in the upazila bagging 45,940 votes with duck symbol.

In Boalkhali upazila, Mohammad Jahedul Haque became chairman bagging 30,577 votes with helicopter symbol. His closest rival Md Shafiq got 19,110 votes with pineapple symbol. Voting was held in 86 polling centres of the upazila.

Mohammad Mir Naushad was unofficially elected as vice-chairman getting 31,310 votes with tubewell symbol while Moshammat Umme Salma won the post of woman vice-chairman bagging 31,031 votes with football symbol.  In Chandnaish upazila, Alhaj Jasim Uddin Ahmed was unofficially elected as chairman of the upazila bagging 38,039 votes with motorcycle symbol. His nearest rival Abu Ahmed Chowdhury got 22,074 votes with horse symbol. Polling was held in 68 centres of the upazila. The number of total voters is 1,91,607. The voter turnout was 32.32 percent. Maulana Solaiman Farooqi, the current vice-chairman, won the vice chairmanship with the electric bulb symbol. He got 44,713 votes. Khaleda Akhtar Chowdhury was elected unopposed as there was no rival for the post of woman vice-chairman. In Patiya upazila, Didarul Alam Didar was unofficially elected chairman getting 56,541 votes with inkpot-pen symbol. His nearest rival Haji Muhammad Harunur Rashid got 46,142 votes with pineapple symbol. Although there are 128 polling centres in the upazila, polling in one centre was suspended due to attempt of stealing ballot papers. In this upazila, 31.77 percent votes were cast.

Abu Saleh Muhammad Shahriar became vice-chairman of the upazila getting 23,850 votes with helicopter symbol while Majeda Begum was elected as woman vice-chairman bagging 24,894 votes with pitcher symbol.
